Government approves ban on grain exports to EAEU till Aug 31

MOSCOW, Mar 11 (PRIME) -- The Russian government has approved a ban on exports of wheat, rye, barley and corn to the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) until August 31, the Economic Development Ministry said in a statement late on Thursday.

The EAEU comprises Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

“The sub-commission on customs, tariff and non-tariff regulation… made a decision to ban exports of grains from Russia to the EAEU temporarily,” the statement read.

The ban will be in effect for “wheat, rye, barley and corn until August 31, 2022” excluding supplies under the export licenses issued by the Industry and Trade Ministry.

According to the Agriculture Ministry, Russia’s grain consumption is covered by 150%. The ban should prevent crossflows of agricultural products taking into account that the EAEU countries have already done the necessary amount of duty-free procurements this year, the Economic Development Ministry said.

The sub-commission also supported a decision to ban exports of sugar and raw cane sugar to third countries outside the EAEU until August 31. Exports to the union states will be allowed under special permits of the Agriculture Ministry.
